Next.js or WordPress for your business site?

How to choose between Next.js and WordPress for a corporate or marketing site without dogma.
Teams often ask for a binary answer: Next.js or WordPress. The better question is who edits the site, how custom the experience needs to be, and what performance and SEO targets matter. Both can rank and convert. The wrong choice usually shows up as slow pages, fragile plugins or a CMS your marketers refuse to touch.
When WordPress fits
WordPress still wins when non-developers publish often, you need a familiar editorial workflow, and the site is mostly content with light custom behaviour. A well-built theme or block setup, careful plugin choice and hosting that is not an afterthought will serve many corporate sites. Weak WordPress projects fail because of plugin sprawl, page builders stacked on page builders, and no ownership of updates.
When Next.js fits
Next.js fits when you want tight control of performance, design systems, structured content and integrations. Marketing sites that share components with a product app, multi-step calculators, authenticated areas and large programmatic landing page systems are natural fits. Editors can still work through a headless CMS; they do not need to open a code editor.
Hybrid options
Some organisations keep WordPress for the blog and use Next.js for campaign or product surfaces. Others migrate gradually. The cost of two systems only pays off when the jobs are truly different. If one team owns everything, pick the stack that matches the hardest requirement and keep tooling simple.
Decision checklist
Ask: Who publishes weekly? Do we need custom interactive flows? Are Core Web Vitals a board-level metric? Do we already have React talent? Is the long-term plan a product, not only a brochure? If editors dominate and requirements are standard, WordPress is often enough. If product-quality UX and performance are central, Next.js is usually the clearer path.
